An apple is a good choice,for it has many good programs,and very rarely,if ever,gets viruses.If you think of the times the computer normally gets these nasty viruses and you have to buy expensive firewalls,and in the end need to go to a computer store to get it cleaned,it is worth the extra money for the Apple.Once you buy it there is no more expense.If a new one is too costly for you,it is better to buy a good used one than a new pc of any kind.

Toshiba and Sony have had a long standing reputation for quality and innovation. Acer is a little know but very good computer.
Dell, Gateway and HP are not bad, but I would go with one of the three I mentioned first.
