I suspect, yesmydog, that it could be a little bit of a generalization to say that vocal music shouldn't really be taught until fifteen, but then I've been formally trained in Indian music since I was six and the styles are markedly different. It's why I've got such an obvious break; because we never use our head voices we basically belt everything and have a sort of limited and low-ish range, and I was never taught to mix my tones.

But yeah, my piano teacher tells me that he doesn't intend to start teaching me voice formally for another year or so -- I'm seventeen now -- just because the female voice develops as 'late' as it does.

It's actually more like early thirties. Also, since the body parts needed for singing don't really mature until a few years into puberty, anyone offering voice lessons before age 15 or so is probably looking for money or doesn't know what they're truly doing.

I was told a woman's singing voice is fully developed in her late twenties.
