Question

Help answer this question below.

Freedom, the thing America has, but you have to pay for everything, even to get married you have to pay. And all these laws, there are sooooooo many. Would you call America 'free'? What makes us more free then the people in Europe?

Speaking as an American, Americans are not free...far from it! The Central Government is taking away the freedoms guarenteed by the Constitution one by one. The CG no longer adheres to the Constituion. We are not free. Homeland Security the US gestapho is seeing to that! They have had a rediculas wall built from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico at billions of dollars that is worthless! Next thing you know they will wall off Canada and then both coasts! I have no idea what they will do about Alaska and even Palin is hopping out of the fire! Hawaii will be easy just extend the sonar net from Pearl harbor!

Free? Go read the USA Patriot Act II! Americans have no freedoms left!

America likes to think it has more freedoms than any other country on earth .. but in reality it may have more freedoms than some countries but no more than other countries and even less than others again.

The US is NOT as free as Europe.

I want to gamble I go to the local bookie or down the pub for a fruit machine ect, an American wants to gamble they need to go to one of 2 states or a Native American Ranch (RACIST!!!).

I am an adult, age 18, and fancy a drink. Hmmm, down the pub! In the US? Gotta wait 3 more years despite being an adult!

The US is NOT a free country.

You're not more free than the people in Europe, but you're expected to believe that you are.

Freedom of speech, supposedly. But even this 'freedom' has boundaries.

Free in this sense does not have anything to do with money. Free in this sense means the opportunity to choose.

In old Europe, you had to attend church. If you didn't, you could be punished in some pretty horrible ways. Not only that, you couldn't choose the church you attended. You attended the state church, the one your king picked. You didn't have any choices in who your ruler was either. There was no vote. You didn't get to choose your occupation either, you did what your father did, unless your ruler told you differently. You didn't get to choose your socioeconomic status either. Unless you were a ruler and/or landowner, you were pitifully poor. You didn't get to choose to own land either. Unless you were a nobleman, you weren't given the opportunity. You basically didn't get to choose anything in your life. You just did what you were told and lived out your miserable life. What we call suffering in our modern world would have been laughed at by our ancestors. They probably would have called our worst suffering a happy life.

Even very recently, half of Europe was behind the Iron Curtain and living a very similar life. It was bad enough that many people died trying to escape. People were starving, forced to do what the state told them and live as the state told them. It was miserable enough that they were willing to die to escape. Every few years, there is some spectacular attempt to escape similar conditions in Cuba, that often ends with many people drowning. People pour across our border with Mexico trying to escape conditions in South and Central America.

I know that Europe is held up as a shining example of freedom these days, but I doubt it is going to stay that way for long. First of all, all those programs they have cost a lot of money. Taxes are high enough that those with money are bailing and going elsewhere rather than pay them. Those programs are dependent on the taxes of the rich to keep going, so when the rich bail, the programs are going to fail. Not only that, there is a large Muslim population that is trying to change the society and regardless of whether or not they succeed in making things the way they want them, they are going to change things in a society that isn't used to dealing with them. A lot of the reason they are able to do the things they do is because they have had a very homogeneous society and a very small area. They don't have to deal with the sheer size of the U.S., nor do they have to deal with the many races and cultures in our society. It is easy to be efficient when everyone agrees on how to do something.
