I always give points to the question and answers, but I've noticed most don't. Whenever I ask a question I usually always give maximum points, I think thats the least I can give for them taking the time to answer.

If the answer is on topic, and helpful, then I always give points, even if the opinion is different to mine. I appreciate people taking the time to put thought behind answering my question, and so show my appreciation by giving them points, and, usually, a comment.

Generally - some people don't answer questions to be nice though. And some answers are bad enough I reckon they earn a bit of a downgrade...

If you give different answers different ratings based on whether or not you are pleased with them, then you are placing yourself in the position of judging the value..of course you have the right to do that if it seems fair to you to do so...my comments usually will indicate how I feel about the answer..that affects nothing..but my point-giving will always be the same no matter what (except for those answers that are not responsive, that I don't understand even after asking for clarification, or that are vulgar/insulting..I just ignore those but I never downrate.) That is just how I do it..I like being impartial..it just feels better to me.:)

  • When you sign up for answer bag you get with it ab ig fat bag of a never ending supply of points. And the people who gave you the bag are nice enough to let you do whatever you want with it ( upto a limit :) ) So if you feel like uprating all the answers you get - go ahead! Its free and you are probably making someone's day!

Well you can give people how ever many points you choose to within your limit, it's entirely your choice.

I don't give everyone my maximum amount of points because some answers are more useful and helpful than others. I use the sliding ratings system to put the ones I find most useful and helpful nearer the top and the less helpful ones nearer the bottom.

I always do, but I've noticed most don't. Anytime I ask a question I usually always give max points I'm not selfish, I think thats the least I can give for them taking the time to answer.

No. If I ask a question, I will only give points for a correct, or helpful answer. I will not hand out points for a wrong answer just because somebody took the time to type it up.

I usually give everyone the maximum amount of points. I never down-rate, if the answer was rude, offensive or I disagreed with it, I ignore it. If the answer was VERY rude and offensive I report it. Then there are those few people who I give the max without even first reading their answers - those are the brilliant and logical ones ;-)
Everyone gets a fair shot by me!!

If the answer is correct to the question, whether I agree or not, I try to give points. Sometimes, after awhile, you lose track of your questions and this becomes difficult.

I also try to rate questions I answer; I wish this was always an up-rate, but it isn't.

Absolutely!!! Even if they don't deserve it. It is important to be a good host at your own questions, just like in real life when you host a party.

I often do that if the question is one where any answer is valid...but with some questions, some answers are better than others so I rate accordingly.

I give all answers to my own questions maximum points, but I use the sliding scale when I'm giving points to answers to other people's questions.

I am happy to see people taking time in answering my questions.
As much as possible, I give them the maximum points I could give. I rarely give anything lower unless the answer really begs for it.

Depends on the questions asked. If you are asking for opinions and the opinion they gave you is relevant and addresses the question then yes.

If they give some random opinion that has nothing to do with the question, then no.

You're reading Does anyone else agree that if someone is nice enough to answer your question that you should be nice enough to give them points, wether or not you agree, isn't that what comments are for? - which can also be phrased in the following ways:

  • I wonder if I, at least, should give the maximum points that I can to everybody who answer my questions, if they are not offensive. Is this right?
  • When I post a question (on AB) and someone answers I give them points just for answering does anyone else do this?
