No. Even if it was a paid year off, I couldnt survive on that and with the economical slouch at the moment, there's no guarantee i'd get another job for that 12 months ~ which I'd need if I was to continue to be able to pay my bills. Yes ~ IF I wont lotto first!

Yes.It is called a break in service and it is very common. They offer you only some perks like medical etc but very little salary. Can be accepted by those who want to take care of their kids or those who want a sabbatical for some special reasons.My friend took that sabbatical for directing a feature film for a year and half.This way you are assured of the job back otherwise you have to search for another.Works for some!
