  • It's hard to see how, since such an action would require the approval of the Pope himself. It would require the removal of a sitting Pope and the appointment of a new one. I Googled all over trying to find out how the Cardinals would go about unseating a Pope and have found nothing that helps.
  • A Pope can be anathematized by an Ecumenical Council. Pope Honorius was anathematized by the 6th Ecumenical Council because - out of negligence? - he did not condemn the heresis of Monothelism but in his capacity as Pope of Rome he accepted in a letter to the Patriarch of Constantinople the heresis. The anathema was confirmed also by Pope Leo II.
