I've gotten my eyes wet plenty of times while I've been wearing contacts and my vision has not worsened. However, it is best to give your lens a good rinse in the proper solution as soon as possible. Water contains bacteria that could ruin it.

No strictly speaking that is not true, your vision wont worsen with the water and the lenses mixing, its just the bacteria in the water which effects your lenses, if this does happen you need to remove your lenses where possible and soak them in your lil contact lenses case for as long as possible in the mean time you must wear your glasses if your totally blind like my self with corrected lenses.

No. It's impossible for water on the surface of your eye to come into contact with your retina because it's inside your eye. Having said that, tap water is not sterile and could contain stuff that causes an infection or something.

The only thing water would do to you contact is...when the water hits it, there becomes an air tight contraction where it almost seals your contact to your eye. IT WILL COME OFF...so Dont worry about it, its just harder to get off....and that is only if you are completely submerged in water. If your taking a shower or something and you get water in your eye...LOL NOTHING is gonna happen, thats funny. Ive worn contacts for...YEARS...and really, I rarely take them out...I keep em for months after their "deadline"...and my eyes are hunky dory. Not a problem. Nothing will hurt your retina...cuz water cant reach your retina

thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard.

I'm sure something got lost between him talking and you understanding. Don't worry, just look at several web sites that tell you all about contact lenses, and you will have a much better understanding.

I guess if you swim under water with open eyes, some chlorinated water could get trapped under the contacts and damage your eyes. Normally lachrymal fluid (keeps your eyes wet) will clean your eyes, but it does not get behind contact lenses, so can't clean there. Prolonged contact between your eyes and chlorinated water can damage them, that's why your eyes start to hurt when swimming for a long time. But, it would probably start hurting like hell, before any permanent damage is done.
