  • Not everyone uses the same calender so not everyone has the Forth of July. But your polnt is well talken. The Holiday we clebrate is Independence Day which just happens to fall on the Forth of July, just like Christmas happens to fall on Decmeber 25th. So happy Independence Day, American.
  • Disagree Lots of people have different Independence Days. We don't alter our speech to certain people by how it would be interpreted by different people. If that were the case, the only correct salutation would be "Happy Day of Independence of the nation-state known in the English language as The United States of America" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Independence_Day You can say whatever you want to a person, as long as that saying has some significance to them.
  • Well, if the 4th of July isn't Independence Day for them, why should we say happy Independence Day? That doesn't make sense. You can't go wrong saying happy 4th to them, you're just hoping they are happy on that fourth day of July.
  • most countries have both.
  • Everyone who uses our calendar has July 4, and many, many countries have Independence Days, so what? The Fourth of July has special significance to Americans, and anyone in the world would be correct to wish an American "Happy 4th." Just as every year I wish my Mexican friends "Feliz Cinco de Mayo." It is not their independence day, but it has significance because on the date an inferior Mexican army kicked the butts of a superior French army in the Battle of Puebla.
