Movies need to be formulaic. Appeal to families and teens. Become a franchise. Capable of sequels and prequels. "Hollywood" is a factory that finances product. If it made food it would be McDonalds. I would actually say no, I mean look at movies like "Stephen King's The Mist" or "The boy in the striped pajamas". Both made quite a bit of money but both had REALLY depessing endings.
