they already do!
think about it, you pay tax on every gallon of gas you buy. my small car gets 30+ miles to the gallon and has a 12 gallon tank. i fill up once a week.
my friends behemoth has a much larger tank and she fills up twice a week, she's already paying five times the gas taxes i do!
Technically, they already do since they buy more gas.
They do pay extra taxes in London. They must pay £25 a day conjestion charge to drive in London as opposed to £8 for non gas-guzzlers, I believe. I think this is right (for the UK - I make no judgements about what is right for the US). There is no need to buy such cars here, which often cost more to buy and more to run. If you can't afford the extra tax, then you would probably have been better off buying an all round cheaper car in the first place.
Since they use more gas, they are paying for more taxes.
There also is a gas guzzler tax: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_guzzler_tax
It is flawed because it doesn't include minivans, sport utility vehicles or pick-up trucks.
Sure why not? Let's hit the people when they are down...good grief, most people have lost their jobs and the car dealers don't want those cars back. I don't understand all this tax adding when the unemployment is so high. We are doing all we can to pay the bills we currently have.I guess I've said all that to say, no I don't think so. Not now anyway.
this is an unfair thing to do, what next, make fat people pay more for their food?
