Is it a good idea to ride in a car if the driver had an airbag go off in his or her face 6 days earlier from just 9 inches away?

I am doing a car safety study. Have you ever ridden in any of the following cars? These cars deploy curtain airbags in front crashes.

You're reading If you were driving a car and got in a head on collision with your seatbelt on, would you want the side curtain airbag to deploy? If so, on just your side or on the passenger side

Me neither!

do you have control over the side airbag setting?
by Wyn the Doll on July 5th, 2009
You can see frontal crash tests. If the car has side airbags for side impacts only, that's good. In frontal crashes, though, side airbags are bad.

so side bags deploy on t-bone crashes ONLY?
by Wyn the Doll on July 5th, 2009
They should only go off if you are t-boned or otherwise hit on the side with sufficient force.

Well I just hope to never really have to experience airbag deployment. I feel pretty safe in my Mini though.

They are safe small cars. If it's a 2002 or up.

How do you define 'safe'

The 2002+ Minis did well in crash tests.
by Gnome of Kevonia is a Cheerwine junkie on July 6th, 2009
that's my point
A IIHS crash test sims 2 cars of the same weight, type, etc (2 mini's) having a mid front head on collision
I hardly think that can define a car as safe
If anything heavier than a Mini hits a Mini the good performance in the test degrade quite dramatically
If a Mini or Smart car collides even with a small pickup it's a speed bump
