use disk utility and restore the leopard dmg to the external drive (external drive must be blank)
From my experience this cannot be done. That would be like trying to launch Windows from a ZIP or MSI files.
Although you can just extract the DMG file contents to an external hard drive using the restore feature in Mac OS X. This way the operating system will see the external drive as a bootable CD/DVD drive.
Then just boot to the external drive the next time you startup the computer.
Can't resize Mac partition after deleting another one. Could anybody help, please?

You're reading Theoretically, if I have a Leopard DMG what do I do to put it on an xternal hard drive and make it bootable?
