  • It could be the internal speaker that is humming. When you plug in an external speaker the internal one is disconnected automatically. The hum is probably a grounding or AC electromagnetic field issue of the internal speaker or the wires that lead to it, especially if you do not get hum in a (working) external speaker. The external speaker jack could also be damaged, or you might have something plugged in to the wrong jack on the audio input/output panel of your computer. If the problem is limited to the internal speaker, the easiest solution that comes to mind is to plug in a working speaker, or to take an old stereo speaker or headphone plug, cut off the wires, and plug it in to disconnect your internal speaker. If you are comfortable opening up your computer, is it usually very easy to simply unplug one of the connecting wires . Make sure you insulate the free end of the wire so that it cannot make electrical contact with anything inside the case.
