I have a professional job interview in a few days and I want to wear a shirt and tie that make the right impression. I will be wearing a charcoal grey suit with light grey pinstripes. What is the appropriate style these days?

Be comfortable but pick colors that work well with your style. Somehow I pictured with your charcoal grey suit a rich lavender button down shirt and a darker royal purple tie to go with it. That would be flattering on alot of skin tones I think. Otherwise, go with a color that really goes well with your skin tone, and don't pick a tie that is matchy-matchy with your shirt. Maybe go with a tie that is in the same color spectrum but not the same, like the lavender/royal purple type combo. It makes you stand out more, and the color makes you look brave like you are willing to take a risk. Good luck on your interview!

As long as you keep it fairly plain (i.e. no crazy patterns) and well ironed, there aren't really too many limits these days.
I would avoid white (and probably black or grey) at all costs. It will give the impression you're just another personality-free "suit". Wear a colour that will enable the interviewers to remember you (interviewers often forget names, and being able to refer to "the one in the red shirt" will instantly boost your chances of rising to their attention). These days interviewers generally like to see a little personality in their applicants- something that shows you're willing to toe the corporate line, but still have a mind and character of your own and therefore something unique to offer the company that raises you above the rest.

Depending on what suits you and you feel comfortable in, blue and red of all shades will go with your charcoal pinstripes, if you wear a black, charcoal or otherwise dark coloured tie (or wear a tie the same colour as the shirt but a shade lighter or darker, or with a stripe). You may also get away with pink, purple, green or even yellow- but don't wear anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or you'll be worrying more about your outfit than the interview.

I would still go with a white shirt with your suit. Colored shirts are more accepted nowadays but maybe with a solid suit rather than a pinstripe. As far as ties go, you don't want to choose one with a crazy pattern but stripes would be ok as long as there aren't a lot of colors.

I think it would be alright but I'm preferential to black suits or maybe blue.
