A lot of cars you can pull a battery terminal off for a few seconds and put it back that should do it. If the problem hasn't been fixed it will just reappear The best way is to fix the problem and reset it with the proper computer.

Take it to AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts, they have those little computers they hook up to your car that will tell you why the check engine light is on & they can also reset it.

You need a code reader with an erase function. The light came on when the computer detected a problem with the engine or it's peripherals. If the problem hasn't been corrected it may not be possible to get the light to go out as the computer will still be tripping it. In that case you have to fix the problem prior to erasing the code. The code reader can tell you what the problem is if you know how to use it properly.

Get a code reader. They're under $100 and well worth it. Tells you what's wrong, and lets you clear the codes when you're done.
