Should smoking be allowed in jails? Is it fair to not allow you smoke at such a stressful time?

    Smoking is only allowed outside of most public buildings anymore (at least in the US). Why should smokers be given special treatment to either go outside just to smoke or smoke in their cells ... people are in jail to be punished not catered to.

    No smoking - that would be part of the punishment. Plus why should taxpayers pay for the increased medical costs for the smoker and those exposed to his/her second hand smoke? That is what would not be fair.
