That's an interesting question. It's not really a problem in my area, but I know whenever I have to go into the big city ... I can't help but step on someone's discarded gum. I see it stuck on walls and doorways and to the sides of the city provided waste bins. It's disgusting and I'm not so sure there isn't a public heath issue involved here also. So a ban might not be a bad idea. At the very least it should made law that chewers can't spit it out, but rather ... have to swallow it instead. At least that way they will dispose of it in a manner that the rest of us don't have to deal with.

I like chewing but I think it's the people who are just too lazy to wrap the gum for the disposal. Like spitting, littering and dog's poo. Many may complain of others but are oblivious about their own bad habits or selfishness eg loud music, noisy motorbike exhaust pipes.
Such may feel it's ok when it's them that is doing it but complains about others whom they find irritating in other ways. Can we stop laziness?

That's exactly what we don't need. Government telling us what we can consume, when and how. When enough people have lost enough freedoms and rights, maybe then they will put a halt to the 'nanny state'.

They really know how to keep Sinapore clean! Chewing gum is not necessary and people have proven that they can't be trusted to throw it in the bin... I would be much happier if they were to ban chewing gum here, the roads and pavements are a mess!

Hell YEAH. In New York City when ever a place fixes the sidewalks or parks in the state. It beautiful to see the smooth ground and then in two weeks the sidewalks look like dalmations. Its not beautiful its disgusting and disrespectful. If the city had gum free sidewalks the streets and furnitures with gum will be less poluted and more beautiful.

the govt think that it's better to ban it.. in Singapore.. because of the undisciplined citizens, it's a way of teaching some lessons.. and.. it doesn't need for other countries to follow SG.. it's a matter of disciplining oneself..

No!... how many more things are going to be banned, maybe if the Singapore Government put more rubbish bins in place instead of banning something that would be a better idea... but it seems Governments around the world find it easier and cheaper to ban things instead of getting of their fat arses and finding a better solution instead of taking away another of lifes simple pleasures
