    I blamed the press for a long time, but then I learned about business, and after all they only do it because people read it, and make money. A better question is why do people care about things like that.

    I think the press is selling news through sensationalism to be sure. Journalists are a rare thing these days; gossip-mongers are pouring trite and irrelevant "new" into our ears each day.

    However, I don't think they wittingly or unknowingly antagonize the general public into radical action. Did the overblown story of Anna Nicole Smith's death spur us into any kind of protest? Has the one-side coverage of the "war" in Irag sparked widespread rebellion? Most of us sit on the couch and listen to news stories with a merely a passing interest. Relentless coverage of often meaningless stories only does more to instill a sense of apathy toward world events.

    Not always intentionally, but when they report some stories they can anticipate the outcome.

    We have become numb to the "regular" murder or robbery.
