Corporal punishment in school is the exception and very rare. The worst punishment is to be sent home in most systems.

I have never seen it done it any public school, but that doesn't mean that it Never happens.

You may have heard of fraternity hazing in college or university.
Paddling should not occur, but as part of an initiation ceremony, among students within a club of their own, who can be sure of what goes on in private?

It's called (objectively, by adults, not by the kids) "hazing," and it is actually more common at university or small private high schools (esp. boarding schools) than in public high school. It's supposed to be illegal, but goes on anyway.

In the movie, it happened to freshmen (first-year students, 9th grade, or about age 13-14).

No, no. That's not true. It's only a stereotype for the most part.

A freshman, by the way is a 9th grader. It would be called a hazing, and since they would be "whacking" the freshmen, that would make it a freshmen hazing. I think that is what you'e getting at.

Generally, freshmen *are* picked on, and teased a lot in high school, but hazings seldom ever happen. The students who do it actually get in a lot of trouble for it, so it's not like it'd be worth it, anyways.

Oh, and yes, I've seen Dazed and Confused.

I was whacked with a paddle twice. Once in grade school, and once in Junior High. My son attends a private Christian school, and while he has never been whacked, the parental agreement has a section devoted to this.

    Basically is reads,

    Check one box.
    Administer swats, notify me later.
    Notify me before administering swats.
Notify me so I can come to the school and administer the swats.

To my knowledge, only one child has received swats in the 12 years my son has attended.

When I was in Jr. High I was swatted I was in the 7th grade in gym, another kid could not get his locker open so I kicked it open, they were impressed so they said wow now do this one, wow now this one and so on ... and on one of those it turned out that the P.E. coach was behind me and the rest is history

No, but there is usually a freshman slaughter week around me, and they get egged and shaving creamed on their way home from school.

I have gone to school in the US my whole life and I have never heard of this being done at any point while I was in school. I know that teachers used to be allowed to do this, but I know they are not allowed to do that at public schools anymore. I don't know about private schools.

I believe that it is illegal in the U.S. for teachers to do that.

However, some teachers in rural areas still do this, just because the school is out in the middle of no where, and thus people don't notice.

i got several paddlings in school and its still legal in my part of the country today

my fiancee's eldest daughter got paddled twice in this school year [6th grade]. She's a good girl but has had some issues that have lead to inappropirate behavior. Its not really my place to say if that was good or bad in her case, I'm not the one raising her, at least not yet. But I wouldnt object as long as its done fairly, reasonably, and as a last resort. In my day it was often the first and only punishment which i dont think is a good thing

I'm confused as to if your question is about school corporal punishment or college fraternity/sorority hazings. I can't comment much on the second option I dont have any expereinces to base an answer on there aside from having a friend who expereinced that once, as for me i have no frame of reference but i understand it doesnt happen as much as it used to anymore
