As a vocalist, I have performed in bars where there was a lot of cigarette smoke and my throat killed me the next day...it wasn't vocal strain either, just the effects of passive smoking. I cannot imagine what harm it is doing people who work there all the time. So, ban it. Otherwise, the lawsuits will follow and your bar will be sold from under you to pay for them.

No - it places workers at risk for a start. And someone can 'choose' to smoke but as soon as they do, a non-smoker has no choice but to smoke too.

You don't breathe smoke in my face, I won't pee in your beer...

I think it should be optional for bars weather they want to be smoking or non smoking. And the people will get to choose which ones they go to.

It should be up to the owner and the customers. You kind of have to expect that if you go into a place for adults there will be smoking. Especially in bars. Even people who don't smoke will do it if they go to a bar. They passed that kind of legislation up here in Ohio and forgot to finish writting the bill before they put it on the ballot. And what they have come up with is going to be immpossible to enforce. The first week after it was passed they had to suspend it till they figured out what they were doing. And the bars lost half their revenue. Now it's completly ignored. I've decided that if they do start inforcing it I'm not going to any bars around here. I'll stay home and drink.

I think it should be banned in bars where food is served, and I think where possible an indoor non-smoking area should be provided, but I don't think it should be banned outright- a lot of people go to a bar to have a smoke, in certain bars it'd be a bit like trying to ban drinking. It's a key part of the experience.

In Australia smoking has been banned from all government property, all restaurants and all bars. You pretty much can't smoke anywhere indoors anymore, and most places have a 5 or 10 metre rule around their buildings.

As a non-smoker, I love it. You dont have to breathe it in anymore, and you dont end up smelling like an ash tray. Some smokers think its unfair because theyre being descriminated agaisnt but I think thats a load of phooey. The smokers still get designated areas to smoke in at all these places, they just can't smoke around the general public.

Of course not, but I miss it sorely. No product could possiby make it to market today with the huge negative side effects as smoking, negative side effects, I like that one. Anyway, to me I think bars should choose, employees can now decide with the knowledge we now have at our disposal whether or not we work or eat/drink there, nonsmokers need not apply/patrons can go elsewhere, buzzes bar and grill, smoking permitted, you decide!

I think there should be bars where smoking is permitted and bars where it isn't. This new law banning smoking in all bars and public places is coming into practice shortly in the UK.
You tend to find alot of smokers in the pubs and bars, and soon they will have to stand outside whilst they smoke. Now, everyone is familiar with the British weather, it's cold, wet and miserable for the best part of the year, so I can imagine it's not going to be much fun huddled in a doorway out of the rain, whilst your drink is waiting inside because you're not allowed to bring it out.
I think it won't be too long before pubs start to become a thing of the past because people will just end up staying in. They will have some friends round , get a few cans in and some wine, and I think 'staying in' will become the new 'going out', which would be damaging to the economy and all that.

I think it should be allowed in bars, as long as there are designated smoking areas where the smokers can smoke.

No, I don't believe they should be allowed anywhere where non-smokers would be exposed to second hand smoke.

There is no such thing as smoking and non smoking areas in a room, the smoke from cigarettes with fill the whole room.

There are many people who have lung diseases from second hand smoke alone, which is so unfair

No it shouldn't - it was a really unpopular idea with the smokers before it came into force. We haven't had smoking inside for a couple of years now.

As a smoker I much prefer it. The majority of places (those worth going to) have made provisions outside for smokers with shelters and heaters. A lot of smokers in UK would say they don't want to change the law back again. Bars etc are much more pleasent now.

Smokers have no right to smoke inside in a public place, but staff have the right to be able to work without being subject to our smoke.

No absolutely not, just because I want to go out and listen to some music and hang with friends why should I have to breathe in all of your smoke..you can die a slow painful death, why should I have to just because I want to go out to a public place. All public places should ban smoking..At least if you want to drink it's your choice, other people's drinks don't get into your system by just showing up there like cigarette smoke does..I basically have no choice when I go out, I have to breathe in your smoke...Yeah you are going to say then don't go to the bars..why shouldn't I be able to go to a public place and have fun just like the rest of you. Smoke outside before you come in or leave and smoke outside and come back in...now doesn't that make more sense and wouldn't that make everyone happy that way?
