Can the airline refuse to return money when a passenger has died before flying?

    They sure can. The general consensus for all airlines is that once a ticket is purchased that it is non-refundable no matter what. If you are worried about it then I would buy travel insurance and then that would be covered. There are rare occasions that they will refund the ticket, but I wouldn't count on it.
