I probably watched more TV than my children did. When I raised my girls, I made sure they had lots of other interests so TV wasn't a choice for them most of the time. They did crafts, they colored, they played with toys, ballet, trampoline, shopping with me, skating, swimming, making mud pies -- and games with me and their father. Find things your child enjoys -- and they won't be so quick to sit mindlessly in front of a TV.

My kids range 3-10 and I don't limit their viewing. The little guy probably watches the most, because we watch educational preschool shows together for a few hours most weekday mornings. My other two spend more time reading and playing when they're home from school, so it hasn't been an issue. The computer is more of an issue with the 10 year old than anything we've come across yet. My kids watch less TV than I did, although I didn't watch a huge amount either. My husband was severely limited in his TV viewing as a kid and now he's a major couch potato!

I have a 7 year old and a 14 year old. My 14 yo mostly plays video games now and very little television. My 7 yo plays no video games but watches a lot of televison. However the 7 yo also spends lots of time reading, playing games and craft projects. The 14 yo I have a deal with to go to the gym with me 3 days a week. So I don't focus on alloting television time. I focus more on encouraging lots of different activities.
