    Damn right! And very well, my friend. I ripped all my credit cards ten years ago. They are a death trap!

    You can...but it involves certain compromises.

    For example, it is extremely difficult to rent a car or purchase an airline ticket without a credit card.

    Renting items (tools, sporting goods, etc.) almost always requires a credit car.

    Many landlords do a credit check on all prospective tenants.

    Etc., etc., etc.

    I have found that a good approach is to have a single low-limit credit card for use in situations where it's more convenient to have it than not. That gives you the benefit of a credit card with little of the downside risk.
