Kantian ethics holds that each person must be treated as an end into him or herself, rather than a means to an end. I think Kant would favor physician-assisted suicide rather than allow a person to suffer "for the greater good." However, a person desiring physician-assisted suicide would not be able to force a physician to provide it against their will; that would be using the physician as a means to an end.
