On the contrary, I think that one of the problems is that most people do not have enough skills in the fields of statistics and probability to make logical decision in our complicated world. One of the reason business can take so many people for a ride is that they do not have the skills to understand when they are being exploited.

  • Let's see, do you ever plan to:
    1. Buy groceries? Unit pricing comes in handy.
    2. Own a home? You need geometry when removating, painting, refinishing floors, even making curtains.
    3. Own any investments? Trend analysis and standard deviations could be helpful.

Just three examples off the top of my head.

who do you think designed your computer, your house. pretty much everything designed used fairly detailed maths. if the people who designed these wern't taught basic algebra and logic in school they wouldn't be as good at what they do as they are now, which means slower computers, less efficient homes ect so you may not use maths in your later job but i bet nearly half will need to know some algebra and a quarter pretty advanced. even if you don't intend to use it, it still teaches logical systems and helps you understand logic on one of its most basic levels so its important to becoming a quick thinking person
