What is the difference between ethnicity and nationality?

    There are key differences, enthnicity defines your racial group, whereas nationality defines your state. A nation is usually made up of different racial groups and a 'national identity' is not the same as enthic identity, unless you are part of a racist state eg nazi germany. If nationhood and ethicity are placed together then a nationstate is far more likely to be racist. Nations are 'forged' over time from different ehtic groups or tribes, though the name given to the state usually derives from one of these groups e g scotland comes from the tribe 'scotti' who arrived in what is now western scotland in the 400s. This does not eman however that all scottish people are decended from this group (scotland is made up of many ethic groups historically and currently) but most feel themselves to be scottish.

    I see nationality as somewhere you live... it relates to ones personal history. Ethnicity is a deeper connection with the people you share a common history with.
