Especially the ones that say word's greatest dad. But there are some nice ones out there. I always thought suits were pointless too. I mean, why not wear what you want? My opinion anyway,,,

They seem to have been designed as arrows pointing you know where.

I think if they were still to be used as originally intened (The rectangular piece of cloth that was tied and hung down till the shoulders was a very important part of an Egyptian’s clothing because it showed his social status) then they would not be useless, but it today's world...i agree with you

Well, once upon a time, the collar was not connected to the shirt (in the time before mass-producing clothing, collars were a heck of a lot easier to make, wash, and replace than whole shirts) and the tie was used to hold the collar on the neck. Nowadays, it's just tradition to wear them. I equate them to accessories for men. Men don't get a whole lot of leeway when it comes to business attire, so the tie is a small way for them to express individual style.

Absolutely! I hate the damned things, and I am pleased to say that I have not had to wear one for about two years now. Unfortunately, if you are to have credibility in certain environments, there is no alternative.

They originated in Croatia in the 1600s. Most people believe they were a symbol of love ond devotion not to mention fidelity from loved ones to soldiers that were on their way to war. They probably looked more like a scarf back then and evolved into what they are today.
