  • Rue has been said to repel cats. Also citrus is another option. Place lemon or orange rinds around your garden borders. Course these have to be replaced periodically. If all else fails, they do sell ultra sonic devices that are specifically used to repel large animals such as dogs and cats as opposed to insects.
  • That is a good response with the Rue. I found that in my windowsill garden if I planted cat grass, cat nip or mint I didn't use the cats ate that instead of my herbs.
  • One thing that I have tried with remarkable success is lion dung. Seriously. There is a company in the UK which markets a product called "Silent Roar", which is dried pellets of lion poo; put a few of them around a garden and cats won't go near it. I am not sure what's available in the US, but you might also try writing to a zoo -- who knows, they might be willing to ship you some.
