  • Um no. Epsom salt may have some useful properties to them, 'treating' a 'jammed toe' or swelling is not really one of them. What you need is ice packs - ice the swollen bits for 20 minutes 3-8 times a day the first 1-2 days (until the swelling goes down a decent bit) then 2-4 times a day for about a week (unless you broke the toe then it will be longer). Cold will reduce swelling and also numb against pain. If in 5 days there is no significant change in swelling see a doctor. If the pain worsens, swelling continues (grows larger) or the foot starts turning 'madly' bruised, see a doctor immediately (ER visit). It is highly possible you have broken the toe. So you may seriously want to consider a next day appointment to get it checked and possibly an X-ray. There are several other medical problems that can result from a broken bone. And though there is no setting and casting of a broken digit, it should be immobilized as best as possible with taping to other toes - something that a physician should do to make certain it sets properly.
