I think not. They piss me enough as it is on other things, it'll probably add needlessly to the cost for the satff and detract from the point. Plus our sideways improvisations work pretty well. Then again, I throve on the mundane and second best. I just think they would detract from the charm
-
Seeing as this is an internet forum, it couldn't hurt. I personally like them and think they add more to a response than the manually created ones. Of course, that's just me, and when have I ever said anything that matters.
-
yes, that would be more expressive than :) and so forth
-
I don't think they are needed... but I wouldn't say no. EDIT After thinking about it, I think its best to forget the emoticons. [The subliminal messaging seems to have worked!]
-
I definitely think no, they shouldn't. I think it would emphasise the social side of things too much, and turn AB into more of a chat room type place rather than an information site. As a new user, I certainly would've taken AB less seriously had there been a load of faces winking at me when I joined up.
-
Overall you can easily present what you want to say in textual form, but i suppose there are those with limited intellectual prowess who need some light entertainment from emoticons and suchlike.
-
it may be a good idea, even thought some ppl don't find it necessary, it may be fun insterad of letters, numbers and signs combinations....
-
Yes why not, would make it even more fun dont you think :)
-
yes!,I've actually been thinking of that for a while now,but people are getting use to just doing :) and stuff,I still prefer emocticons though.
-
Aye..why skimp with :) or lol..so low tech. As we tell our politicians to invest in infrastructure. Invest in AB!
-
I do not think emoticons should be enabled on Answerbag. It would take a large amount of time to load the page, and it might be distracting to the ABers who are trying to give or receive answers.
-
id say yes for me who fond of using emoticons.. its not just emoticons i think, it helps you to show what reaction you exactly has together with your answer.. (my opinion)
-
I think that would be a great idea!
-
It might help people that can't discern the jokes verses the real attempts to answer a question, verses the poor answers. They should add a spell checker too.
-
Absofuckinlutely.
-
I think that's a great idea !!
-
cool with me
-
I, personally, prefer the old-style smileys. (It sometimes bugs me when programs turn them into images.) It's most certainly the nerd in me expressing itself.
-
Sure, and as mentioned above, a spell checker.
-
It would be a nice idea but I think it would bring more problems to the loading speed of the site. When we used to have animated Avaters it was really cute but apparently became a problem and had to be taken away.
-
Yes totally. I've been wanting them!
-
Thanks everyone, for answering! ; )
-
I think the emoticons would just slow down this site, so I don't like 'em. I'm content with =) ;-)
-
i dont think emoticons would be relevant really.. this is a Question and answer site.. people of all ages use this website and i think the presentation looks good without little coloured faces everywhere
-
I don't know, but it's a good idea.
-
Don't know! But they should, I just use =D
-
i put them anyway :)
-
Very good idea, someone must tell them.
-
I'm not sure, but I always thought that was a really cool feature on Deviant Art. Would be cool.
-
We just make our own.........:):)!! Or not....:(:( lol
-
I always use smiles! =D or :)
-
They just add more overhead to the server load. People complain about the speed now... What would they do when you add even MORE pictures to deal with? I know they're small, but they also use different font sizes, meaning they would have to have at LEAST three or four different versions of each one - One for the questions, one for the answers/comments, one or more for profile pages, and probably a couple more - like for "similar questions", etc. Once they DO put them in, then people will complain that an expression they wanted to use wasn't there, etc. AB is always adding and changing things, trying to improve the site. Keep an eye on the blog (top right, just below YOUR info, on the home page).
-
Yes Yes and Yes.
-
but AB has emotions I really feel for all the persons who are AB members
