How many different abbreviations do you know, and what do they mean?

Some I often use:

LOC - loss of consciousness
HS I + II + O - heart sounds 1st and 2nd present and nil else (normal)
Pt - patient
PT - physiotherapist
OT occupational therapist
ROM range of movement
AROM - active ROM
PROM - passive ROM
ECG - electrocardiogram (why do Americans use eKg?)
EEG - electroencephalogram
LFT - liver function tests
PFT - pulmonary function tests
Us and Es (very common on medical dramas) - urea and electrolytes - a standard blood test
PRN - take medication as required
PC - presenting complaint
HPC - history of presenting complaint
PMH - past medical history
DH - drug history
SH - social history (e.g. smoking)
FH - family history
CVA - cerebrovascular accident - a stroke
TIA - transient ischaemic attack - a kind of mini-stroke that goes away
MI - myocardial infarction (heart attack)
PE - pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs, v. bad)
DVT - deep vein thrombosis
ECT - electro-convulsive therapy - hope to some deity you never have to watch this, it's horrible)
PVD - peripheral vascular disease
PID - pelvic inflammatory disease
Sa02 - oxygen saturation of the blood
Rx - therapy, comes from recipe, as in the different ingredients of a treatment

And the list goes on and on and on and on....I may add some more later when I have more time. I've got to kill myself on a rowing machine now. :-(

ADME - drug treatments are based on the administration, distribution within the body, metabolism and excretion of the drug in question
AF - atrial fibrillation, the top chambers of the heart are not contracting in sequence, can be completely asymptomatic (they aren't really needed normally) but stray electrical impulses at the wrong time can pass to the rest of the heart and lead to...
VF - ventricular fibrillation. The cells in the ventricles of the heart are not contracting in synchronisation. Fatal unless treated immediately with defibrillation. Otherwise anything you do with the patient might be...

ETT - endotracheal tube - what you see them doing on ER to maintain the airway
LMA - laryngeal mask airway, less invasive and used for shorter and more minor operations.
