• I've seen numerous suggestions that I thought were good ideas: the sandal idea, cutting tires into strips and using them as reflector posts on roads, grinding them up and using them as cover for horse racing tracks, etc. The problem always seemed to be that no one could come up with a way to recycle them in such a way that was economically viable. Unfortunately, too many people in the world today just don't care about doing anything if they don't see immediate profit potential.

• Actually, they recycle tires into road surfaces, bouncy material for playground surfaces, and mulch around plants.

• I thought they were grinding up the old tires and mixing them with asphalt to pave roads.

• they also tried to burn them as fuel in a power plant in New York state. they didn't have good enough emission controls however and dusted the state of Vermont with soot. when better particulate removal systems are cost effective, ground tires will be a good energy source for them.
