I think they should have kept Saturn and GMC while dumping Pontiac and Olds.
GM has not been making Oldsmobiles since 2004. Sales were way down from previous years.
They have to keep GMC, makers of their truck division.
I am not sure if they are keeping the wrong divisions (GMC) or not. It might be a good move to keep the pontiac division, and incorporate most of their models into the pontiac models.
If you have bought a new car in the past 5 years, you will see all the different makes and models that are made. Except for the different names, they are basically the same car.
They're also keeping Buick and Cadillac.
Saturns aren't what they were when they first came out - an innovative vehicle. Now they are just a "me too", and completely conventional cars. I don't see a problem with selling it off.
As for Pontiac, I guess they just didn't sell very well and there weren't good prospects for reviving them.
All in all, I think they made the right decision.
By the way, oddly enough, Buick sells quite well in China.

You're reading GM is ditching Pontiac and Saturn, but keeping Oldsmobile and GMC. Do you think they're keeping the wrong divisions?

Thanks. It seems to me they have no innovative divisions left.
