I think these days you can avoid pornography on the internet if you want to, but I'll take your question a step further . . . pornography and it's ease of access is destroying lives. Maybe I should clarify, the WAY pornography is being used is destroying lives and intimacy in realtionships. Often it can enhance, but very often it is destructive. Kudos to those out there who can use it in moderation and to add to their lives rather than create a void.

No. But can someone tell me why hackers can break into The Pentagon but the Police cannot stop illegal sites? Instead of putting the hackers in prison, why don't they put their talents to good use and crash illegal sites.

Better. Earlier porn sites (and some still try) have forced programmers to develop ways to counter some of their hijacking techniques, redirection because of typos and other nefarious ways site operators used to try to force traffic to their sites. In someways it's forced the internet neophytes to become more tech savvy by learning about java script, firewalls, anti virus , malware etc when some newbie types in 'Miley Cyrus boobs' into a search engine and gets their PC sent into to the oblivion know as BSOD etc.

It's definitely changing our culture. Kids are getting exposed to a wide variety of porn that I would never have dreamed of as a kid, and it's not pictures, it's video. Is it good because kids are bypassing media hyped body stereotypes and seeing what real people look like naked? Or is it bad because teen aged girls strip for their loser boyfriends over the internet only to have their striptease circle the globe? Is it good because kids get desensitized to different sexual practices and learn to become more accepting of differences? Or are they retreating into a world of porn and ignoring real relationships? I don't have the answer yet and I don't think anyone else does either. We haven't seen this play out completely.

Pr0n has been around far longer than the Internet, so I really don't see much more of a detrimental effect in cyberspace than there is in meatspace. However, there are certain technologies that have benefited as a result of the proliferation of porn. I mean, it's a multi-billion dollar industry so if they want better video technology then developers are going to make video technology better.
