Yes, you are absolutely right. This question is similar to asking about the existence of God. You cannot prove nor disprove that he/she/it exists (currently). The same can be applied to the existence of a wizarding world.

The World of witches and such is a very dark place nothing like that in Harry Potter. They (the witches) actually exist and it is a sub culture. Just as street gangs are a sub culture. Witches, as described by those who have been lucky enough to leave the groups that they belong to and find God have written about their experiences. They are a culture of Satan worshipers who actually have demons possess their bodies. I could relate to you some rather gruesome stories and other facts however I would be putting not only myself in danger but you as well. Suffice it to say they are real and extremely powerful. They get their powers not from magic but from Satan's angels also known as demons.
