• I totally agree Darryl61-- at least in the sense that most responses and most questions are generated from the 35 or less crowd. Many people with the most rank and therefore "power" to give others points are below the elder threshold-- whatever that is.

• I think "stupid" is perhaps unjustified. They may be inexperienced with a keyboard, or using English as a second language, or simply too young to know better, or awkward with the interface -- not being computer-savvy enough to edit things properly. Some teens deliberately misspell words as part of teen culture -- the recording artist Prince was singing "I would Die 4 U" since 1984, for instance. I try not to be harsh with people who are asking for help; it's not charity if it's delivered with a grudge and a slap.

• We all have our pet peeves, and I think we all know Bob's; grammar. Seriously though, I have gotten to the point where sometimes I have to slow down to even realize that I am not reading straight English. I grew up bi-lingual. I have known |33+ since before there was an Internet. Between that and dealing with intelligent Filipinos during my time in the Navy, I learned to judge not on syntax but on content and context. As for Bob, well, it's a free country. If he thinks it's stupid, then that is his opinion.

• My pet peeve is hypocrisy. For example, someone who is notorious for being downright petty and nasty to other users because of their so-called "illiteracy", but who in the same breath make horrendously simple spelling and grammatical errors, themselves. I would have thought that if you were going to go out of your way to Lord your "superior intellect" over others, you'd make damn sure you knew EXACTLY what you were talking about, with zero room for error.

• I know that my own spelling and grammar aren't always perfect.  Nobody's is.  Occasional errors are to be expected of anyone.  But surely it shows in my writing that I am at least making a reasonable effort to write correctly and clearly; and I don't think people very often have to struggle to figure out what it is I am trying to write.  There's a big difference between trying and occasionally falling short of perfect; and not trying at all.  Those who won't even try to write clearly or correctly deserve to be called “stupid” and otherwise treated with scorn and ridicule; and I will not apologize for doing so.

• Occasional errors are to be expected of anyone, absolutely. But, not you, because you're the one who makes it your mission in life to ridicule others because of spelling and grammatical errors. Therefore, I would expect nothing short of perfection from you in return. Anything short of absolute perfection suggests that you are simply a bully who enjoys making fun of others, but who expects a "there, there" and a pat on the hand if and when you screw up the one thing you're reaming someone else about. It's all about not throwing stones if you're living in a glass house, Bob. Unless you have absolutely perfect and flawless spelling and grammar at all times, you have no right to belittle anyone else. Net-speak annoys everyone, but letting it get to you to the point that you start calling people "stupid" and "moron", suggests that the real problem lies within you, not them.

• I also make a reasonable effort. Oddly, it seems that many people DO have to struggle to figure out what I am REALLY saying despite the technically correct grammar and spelling of a particular comment/answer. If your complaint is merely about laziness, then I find that odd as you are an American and will eitehr have to accept that the majority of your fellow countrymen are quite lazy (at least intellectually) or go completely stark-raving mad attempting to cope with being surrounded by morons. For the record, I fall into the latter group ;)

In this instance, I am merely pointing out to you how absurd it is that you have such a high and mighty attitude about spelling and grammar, when, really, if someone wanted to do to you what you do to others, they could have a field day picking apart your own errors. But, no one, thus far, has done that, so you feel justified in doing what you are doing. You're not better than anyone, despite what flaws they might display for the world to see. It's the fact that you so obviously feel yourself superior to others that irks me. But, there are way more important things in life to get hot and bothered about, which I'm sure you'd agree with.

I am a gamer, ex-military, and have been known to do QA which requires both above-average IQ and attention to detail. I see myself as the lowest any real person should be; anybody dumber than me is a moron. Then again, amongst the people I associate with face-to-face, I AM the stupid one. It is nice to see a bit of plain-spokenness around here though.

Or have I simply pointed out what, exactly, is wrong with what you do? I'm not afraid of wearing the less than perfect label if it means that you understand that there is at least one person here who see's you for who you really are. I don't think you are a bad person, Bob, but I do believe that you have a superiority complex, and that the points you make could absolutely be made in a nicer, and less insulting manner. If you were less arrogant in your replies, then perhaps more people would be willing to cut you some slack when your own spelling and grammar is less than perfect. You don't care about that. You only care about ridiculing others.

• Perhaps it's just a matter, then, of how you choose to look at things, Jervinator.  I have nearly always been well above-average in some way or another, among those with whom I've associated.  If I took your view that “I see myself as the lowest any real person should be; anybody dumber than me is a moron” then I would have to believe that I am surrounded by morons.  One can be considerably less intelligent than I am, considerably less hard-working than I am, considerably less careful and diligent than I am, and still be within what I would accept as reasonable standards for a human being.  But I do have some standards.  In particular, those who won't even try to do whatever they are doing well, I find myself compelled to look down on as inferior.

A little hard work and determination can compensate for a lack of IQ points. Out of curiousity, how many people do you know complain about their new (electronic device of choice) being too hard to figure out while scoffing at any suggestions that they read the instructions? To me, that is lazy AND stupid. You don't have to be a member of Mensa to read the manual, but even if you have an IQ of 197 you are an idiot not to except for the simplest of devices.
