It appears to be common for people of various religions, or even no religion at all, to wear cross jewelry. Why would a non Christian want to wear a symbol that represents our salvation through Christ's death?

Some people probably wear them just because they like how they look.

I note that the Yin-Yang symbol (pictured below) is a very popular image in jewelry and other uses; I bet the vast majority of those who use this image for its visual appeal have no clue whatsoever about the religion from which it comes, or the meaning that it holds within that religion.

I am a Christian and I have a cross necklace. I do not wear it because I'm a Christian, I wear it because I like the stones in it. The cross isn't only a Christian symbol. Perhaps others just like it or they wear it because it has some meaning to them.

I wear a cross and although I would say I am not a devout christian (i dont go to church, i rarely pray etc), I do believe in God.

I think labelling people as a certain religion is sometimes not fair.. sometimes people have to spend longer working out what they believe in and therefore I think it is ok for anyone to wear a cross necklace.

Most probably because it appeals to them.
However, originally, the cross was not a christian symbol, but a pagan one. Scholars have traced it back to standing for the 'T' in Tammuz, another name for Nimrod, the man who first founded cities after the flood against God's direct orders. Several major dieties from several (fairly major) pagan religions also trace back as to being different names for Nimrod.
While I realize that many christians wear crosses to symbolize Christ's victory, there are also christians who refuse to wear cross jewelry because of the older meanings attached to it. <grin>

I don't know the answer for that, other than some people just follow fashion. If they see that a rapper is wearing a cross, they will wear it too. I just thank God, because He has obtained for himself, free advertising around the necks of many pagans! LOLOL

...trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Although the cross is a symbol of victory for us that are Christians because Christ died on the cross and freed us from the wages of sin by His death, the cross was also a symbol used by some Pagans and sorcerers as well. The reason that Christ died on a cross was because the cross was a symbol of death and a curse. Christ became a curse for us and took our penalty on the cross for us. If one died on a cross (cruxifiction) then they were looked down on as a shameful and reproachful thing. Christ, the Son of God, the Creator of the Universe, and the King of kings and Lord of lords, became a shameful and disgraceful thing before God as He died in the place of the guilty and the cursed (us) to save us. You see, the cross is not only a Christian symbol, and although to us Christians it represents our salvation and atonement through Christ's death, to some it can mean something else, sometimes pertaining to the Occult. I hope that this is helpful.

-In the service of the Master.
Thank you and God bless you!
