  • You will get ugly, your hair will fall out, your skin turns greyish, you will bruise more easily, your eyes will look sunken in. That's apart from the more severe medical problems.
  • you will die
  • Physically, you will get very thin. Your body will start losing muscle tone, you will become weak. Mentally, you will lose concentration and become a little confused - especially if you do not drink either. basically, it is not a good idea - don't do it. A couple of years ago, I was quite ill, and could not eat or drink. I did not manage to swallow any solid food for a month, and even liquids were difficult ( I received liquids through a drip, but was not able to have a feeding tube inserted). After a month, obviously I had lost a lot of weight, had some major surgery to correct the problem, but to be honest, I do not remember a lot of it, because i was mentally not too astute at the time. Also, after a month of of being able to eat, i had lost peristalsis - that is the muscular movement which helps food move along inside you. So basically, i still could not swallow - the food did not move through my system, and I needed to take medication to stimulate that movement again. So basically, after a month of that muscular movement not happening, I had lost the ability to make things move through my system. It took about 4 months for that peristalsis to fully restore itself again. So, after only a month of not eating, i was no longer able to eat! It took a long time to get back to normal again! And it took a long time before I began to look healthy again - pale, grey, sunken eyes, unhealthy, pallid. My hair began to fall out (apparently it does that when the body experiences some kind of trauma - in my case, the trauma may have been the surgery, but it could also have been related to the lack of nutrition). Now, I went through all of that while under medical supervision! This was not a choice to stop eating, and it was uncomfortable. I would not recommend it.
  • All your muscles will waste away from lack of protien. You will have problems with your hair and nails and skin. Your stomach will shrink nd your small intestines will lack the nutrients it needs to keep you healthy. There will be no essential vitamins to be stored or absorbed such as B12. Without B12 your body temperature drops, you become nervous, you have thrush form in and outside your mouth. Fungus forms on your lips and bleed. B6 is need for your nervous system, you won't have it. You will continue to loose weight, look terrible and be very sick until you start multable system failure, where your body starts to shut down. Your heart will beat irradically because all you electrolytes are off. You will be confused and dying. If you are even thinking along these lines, tell someone. No good comes from starvation.
  • Once I tried fasting. My goal was three days, water only. That was a mistake. After about 24 hours, my legs began to ache, my knees got weak, and I couldn't think clearly. I was at work at the time ( I work at a restaurant ), and the smell of the food was just too much. I gave in and ate as much as I wanted. I felt better as soon as I ate. I will never fast again. I don't understand why religious people fast, I just isn't healthy.
  • Eventually your body will begin to feed off of itself to survive. Loss of mental faculties, hair loss, organ failure. a "death palor" appearance and eventually massive organ shutdown resulting in death.
  • At the time I am writing this, I am no. 7 so I'll try not to repeat any of the above. Those starving people in other countries on tv are one example. You will start to grow hair all over your body, longer fine hair; you will be light-headed, dizzy and have balance problems. Your body is struggling with survival, so you will not be able to speak intellectually about subjects you were once expert before; in fact, you will sound moronic at times; you will not want to eat because it makes you sicker than your usual nausea/stomach feel. Your gut will cramp. You will have fainting spells. In one of those fainting spells, you will not come back. +4
  • You will be knocking on death's door. All humans/animals need fuel to survive...even plants. However it will be a painful death like slow torture except it will be technically a suicide if the person willed themselves to do it. If you are religious, I'm sure God has a special place for those people who committed suicide.
  • You'll die. You may or may not die right now, but look at Karen Carpenter. She'd finally gotten her act together and started being healthy when her heart finally gave out from the stress of all the years of anorexia. Or you could be like a friend of mine and end up with an oral cancer from all the years of being burned by stomach acid when she threw up. What you are doing may very well kill you tomorrow, or it could do enough damage that years from now when you are happy and this phase of your life has passed, it could sneak up and bite you in the butt and destroy the happiness you've found. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Carpenter http://atdpweb.soe.berkeley.edu/quest/Mind&Body/Carpenter.html Instead of depriving yourself of food, learn to see food as a tool and an ally. Learn to nourish yourself really well, without eating things you don't need. That is what my friend did during her cancer treatment. She carefully researched which foods would best help her body to fight off the cancer by giving her immune system what it needed to fight. She put every ounce of that food obsession and every ounce of that need to control things into eating the right amounts of the most nourishing foods she could get and guess what, she beat both the cancer and the eating disorder. If you have an eating disorder, you have a need to control your life and you express it through food. You can make that your ally instead of your enemy. Control what you eat, not how much. Set a healthy target weight for yourself and work on giving yourself the best nourishment that you can. Research which foods will make you the strongest. Eat superfoods, like broccoli, spinach and carrots. And learn to recognize the difference between a bulge that is fat and a bulge that is a bone under the skin. Emaciated is not sexy, its stomach churning.
