There are other wines out there. some are sweet, like Catawba. its pink and really good.

The best excellent wines are made in southern Italy. no vingar taste there. cheap wine is just that....cheap.

Some people hate the taste of beer, some people hate the taste of whiskey. wine is just like a go-between.

Before you give up on wine, try a bottle from Italy. the grapes are different, the climate is perfect, and hillsides provide just the right amount of moisture for the worlds best grapes.

Wine is not the drink of snobs.

Just because a person likes chocolate ice cream, instead of vanilla, does that make that person a snob? no.

Its all about choices and a personal preference.

Some people actually enjoy wine and find it interesting to learn about wines, vineyards, and the wine making process. I think it gets a bit of a haughty reputation because wines haven't always been available for the prices you find today. It takes a while to make a wine and for that reason it has been something enjoyed primarily by the well-to-do in the past.

There are DEFINITELY people who use wine as a form of snobbery... and they are very annoying. You can't have a glass of wine with them without hearing how the wine you are drinking can't possibly compare with the vintage bottle of chardonnay they drank one time. They will never fail to mention how much they wine they really like costs. These people can usually be found with a glass of vin in hand at any gathering (dinner party, barbecue, baby shower, tailgate party... it doesn't matter!) because they want everyone to know how much of a wine connoisseur they are.

What is smug about wine? The quality of a wine is not pegged to it's price tag. I've had $14 bottles of wine that compare favorably with $200 bottles. And there are a lot of legitimately great wines in the $40 - $80 range, which is less than many good whiskeys.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't have value to someone else. Perhaps you've never found a wine that appeals to you, but I'll bet given time and someone who was willing to listen to what your tastes are, you could find one that does.

Wine compliments food in a way that a mixed drink or a beer never can.

And for the record, some of the most snobbish people I've ever met are the kind that drink beer out of a can. Anyone that looks down on you, even if from below, is a snob in my book.

Isnt the whole thing just so pretentious? Give me a cold beer anytime, or a Jack daniels and Coke.

    I like wine.

Not all wine, but some wine.

What do you mean "what's the deal"?

It is unfortunate that it is associated with the snobs, and through the media it appears so. Some acquire a taste for it others don't. There is many choices in alcoholic beverages and this is just one of the many choices.Anyway one should not be judged on what alcohol they choose.

I think your assertion about snobs and wine is a little bit over the top - but each to their own.
I also do not like wine, it tastes very bitter to me, and I used to work in a wine-bottling plant - thus I had good exposure to it.
I think that for people who enjoy wine (and taste/enjoyment is a subjective thing) they find that some more expensive brands are nice, but they can also get good quality wine not priced in the premium market.
