Do you feel it would be beneficial if couples were required to take a course or participate in some type of couseling based interview session before they can apply for and recieve a marriage license? Would the divorce rate decline?

• I can't quote the exact divorce rate in this country but I know it's in the ball park of 50%. You don't consider that broken?

• Yes but it has nothing to do with those who haven't married or divorced yet and that is exactly the way they will see it.

• It may be, but I think that most people who are applying for a marriage license aren't really in the mindset to want to opt out because of a counselor. And also the idea has a moral question to it too: is it okay to try to discourage people from marrying?
  
  "Henry, what is a part of you that a woman might not like?"
  "I snore."
  "Henry, you snore? I can't sleep with someone who snores! Forget it, I'm not marrying you!"
  
  What forced counseling would do is really plant the seed of doubt it many couples' minds, and could be more harmful that helpful (ie a self-fulfilling prophecy.)
