Where can I learn the basics of Japanese language? I would like to learn to understand and speak some of it.

    Learn it on youtube!

    There is a young girl that gives lessons in grammar that are funny and interesting. My son uses them.

    Just type in Japanese lessons they are the ones that are numbered 1 to 25 I think and have plain white screens with black bold lettering.

    Pimsleur has an excellent audio-only program which is also relatively inexpensive.

    Also, check out nearby community colleges - that's where I took Japanese, though I doubt it's a common component of most schools' language programs.
