  • Yeah,I know just what you mean.Black Beauty is always been one of my favorite reads. It is very joyful and up-lifting to me.Heartbreaking,too,though.*+++++*
  • "The God Delusion" by Sam Harris. It will make an unbeliever out of you
  • "The God Delusion" from Richard Dawkins. I'm reading it now and it's really good. I really respect theists who can take the time to read about others' beliefs, not just their own.
  • The Harry Potter series, anything by Stephen King, particularly Misery, The Twilight series, by Stephenie Meyer, His Dark Materials, by Philip Pullman (starts with Northern Lights) These books are about a young girl who lives in an alternate universe to ours and basically it's a fantasy trilogy, but doesn't read like some of the traditional fantasy books (not long-winded) :). Also The Bartimaeus trilogy (starts with The Amulet Of Samarkand) Another fantasy trilogy, funny too though. It's a story told mainly from the point of view of a djinni called Bartimaeus, who is essentially a spirit/demon who is enslaved my magicians! The Noughts and Crosses series, by Mallorie Blackman. Set in a world of racial diversity where black people are superior to white people!! Very good series! Em...Oh yeah, Shame the devil, by Mary McCarthy, which I just finished reading and couldn't put down. So yeah, happy reading!!! :)
  • " The Plague Dogs " - - by Richard Adams ( author of Watership Down, too, another winner ) - - written much from the perspective of two dogs who escape from a research/animal testing institution, the dogs are on the run as the institute puts out a (false?) public announcement that the dogs have the plague. Incredibly moving story for me. [ A very good animated full-length film was made of the book, too -- it ain't no kiddie-cartoon, though! ] +5
  • Any book by Terry Pratchett (God bless his soul) Last one I read was "Nightwatch" It's about this fellow, Commander Vines of the Nightwatch (about similar to the police of course) who is chasing a murderer/general bad guy known as Carcer. While in pursuit of him, he runs through, long story short, time back to the city years earlier. He meets his younger self, and, has assumed the identity of his fallen mentor, becomes sergant-at-arms nightwatchman, and while the city is in chaos, battles with Carcer. Returns to his own time, and yada yada. Hope I didn't give too much away.
