I wouldn't think so.  There was a very noticeable decline in the quality of American-made cars during the 1970s, which didn't seem to reverse itself until the late 1980s.  Based on the following samples with which I have been familiar…

      •   1969 Falcon station wagon
      •   1975 Ford LTD station wagon
      •   1979 Buick Skylark
      •   1983 Pontiac Firebird
      •   1986 Chevrolet Chevette
      •   1986 Ford Escort (I usually refuse to admit that this car ever existed, for I don't like to admit that Ford would ever have made such a bad car as this one would have been, if it had existed.)
      •   1988 Ford Tempo
      •   1994 Ford Tempo
      •   1996 Mercury Mystique

The 1975 LTD was noticeably not quite as well-built as the 1969 Falcon.  All the 1979 through 1986 models were all uniformly of considerably poorer quality than the 1975 LTD.  The 1988 Tempo was noticeably much better quality than any of the 1979 through 1986 models; probably about as good as the 1975 (though, by this time, there is so much difference in design that it's difficult to make a good comparison).  The 1994 Tempo was noticeably better quality than the 1988 Tempo, and the 1996 Mystique is the first of all these cars that I have felt compelled to admit is of at least as high a degree of quality as the 1969 Falcon was.

The 1983 Firebird (note that it is the same year, and same manufacturer as the Corvette about which you are asking) was quite notable for the fact that parts sometimes fell off of it while it was being driven.  I was tempted to make a bumper sticker for it which read, “The parts falling off of this car are genuine GM® parts!”

There is no such thing as a "1983" corvette. 1982 was the last year of the C3, coming out with the C4 was late in the year so they made it a 1984.

To the first 2 who replied to this answer, you're both way off on your knowledge of the 1983 corvette. Being that the '83 Corvette was never sold to the public and the only one that is known to still exist is in the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, you might have a hard time getting your hands on one. Also to EyePod, a Corvette collector does not go after the last year of a decade. If you want the last of anything it's the last of a model, like the 1996 Grand Sport, the last of the C4's. The fact that a Corvette is from the last year of a decade has no impact on it's value.

Since there were only 47 made and all but one was destroyed by GM (and that one is in the National Corvette Museum) I do not think you could call it a "good Year"

LOL ! No, 1983 was not a good year for Corvette because there was no Corvette in 1983 !

You see, Corvette was in its 3rd generation (major redesign) from 1968 thru 1982. The 4th generation (or C4) was to be release in 1983 but wasn't ready, wo while the plant in Bowlinggreen KY uilt a number of Test Models, None were release for sale to private citizens. In Fact, there is only 1 surviving 1983 and it is the rotunda of the National Corvette Museum across the road from the plant in BG, KY.

The C4 model was released in Late Summer/Fall of 1983 as an 1984 Model Year car. If you google 1984 Corvette and 1982 Corvette, you are sure to see how different the cars are from pictures.

There was no 1983 Vette due to the model change. it went from the long, sleek sytle in 82 to the snub nosed model in 84.
