I am glad you are going Monday for the U.S. Jessica. I am sure the doctors can tell you exactly what's going on. Be sure and ask plenty of questions! They are the experts. Good luck.

I know this question is "old" by now, but just in case this happens to anyone else, I thought I'd answer. First of all, if it were an ectopic pregnancy, you'd be dead by now. You'd feel serious pain VERY quickly after conception, because the embryo grows so rapidly in the early stages, and if it is implated in the fallopian tube, it would cause pain within a few days to a couple of weeks, and rupture and death would occur not long after that, if you didn't seek medical attention. A "missing period" can be caused be a number of things. Are you very thin ? Amenorrhea (lack of a regular period) can be caused by low body weight (being athletic or having an eating disorder can lead to this, for example). You could also have a thyroid problem, PCOS (polycistic ovarian syndrome), Asherman's, or an iron disorder. It could also be drug-induced -certain birth control pills (or the Depo shot) contain hormones that stop menstruation.

I knew a girl a few years ago that was under the stress of living in a different country, losing her Au-Pair job and host family, and having to do good in school. She didn't have her period for like 4-5 months. She wasn't pregnant, just under a lot of stress. Stress can cause you to miss periods.

Stress is a very big factor too that can cause amenorrhea, it can make your hormones go haywire...and PCOS also...and hyperprolactinemia....etc

If you are on birth control pills you may not have a period. The most probable cause of a missed period is lack of ovulation. There are lots of things that can cause you to not ovulate. One thing is rapid weight loss. Most reasons to miss ovulation aren't serious so I wouldn't be too worried.

I went a whole year without periods, about 2 years ago. I decided to get healthy and use store bought sea salt grinders. I depleted my thyroid to the point of not allowing my ovaries to work, simply by not having the iodine needed for health. I went back to iodized wea salt and now have healthy twins. Also, when you are young you may not be regular. I bled twice a year from the ages of 14 1/2 until I was 18. I got regular but for me is every 35-42 days. Every woman should read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It is a great book about how our bodies work and why as well as what can mess it up. It also is huge on talking about how we can find symptoms that are there every day to figure out what part of our cycle we are in.

A lot of the previous answers are correct. Many things can cause missed periods such as bc pills and stress. You need a good GYN exam. As far as ectopic pregnancies, you will not die from this. I am a nurse and I too have seen 80 year old women have pelvic CT's and it revealed calcified ectopic pregnancies. This doesn't happen too much now because women go to the MD and check things out. I wanted to clarify that.

Not sure how active you are but during high school my best friend did not have her periods the entire 4 years and her doctor equated it to her activity level in sports. Typically she would get them a month out of the summer when she was not active, but then soccer resumed and she'd lose it again.
