first, i have to give myself permission to relax. (that may sound silly, but it's true.) then, i find that allowing myself to be still and concentrate on my breathing (while taking deep breaths) can be quite calming. the other day, i went and layed in the grass and literally watched the clouds go by. it was helpful. although, i would have gotten up sooner if i hadn't pre-decided that i should stay at least 15 minutes to relax.

A one hour full body massage by a licensed Massage Technician is what I do monthly to relieve my stress..I carry so much of my stress in my upper back and it can be quite debilitating if I let it go...stress in my life comes from my work. OH...and one other idea....sit on a deserted beach...all by myself..and pretend I am the only person on Earth...:)

Depends on the type of stress: I generally only get anger stress, or at least that's how my stress displays itsself. In these cases I find pushing my body to the limits of pain management help, such as pressups til i collapse, situps til i feel sick, sprinting as hard as a i can for as long as i can, then stop, then again, then again. Alternatively punching walls, or ripping things apart. One of the best ways I've done is to begin a list of something of your choice. My personal list is 'Ways to inflict serious pain' And I just get lost in the list. By the time I've run out of ideas in a night, I feel completely relaxed. Try writing a list of everything that's stressing you out, and then burn it. Try and make up lyrics which are sick and twisted. I once wrote a whole song! If it's not angry stress, or is work related, the list of things that are stressing you out and burning it is helpful, but talking to friends about it, or going to a party, getting wasted, and having those bizarre conversations you can only have when drunk is one of the best ways for short term. Good luck!

Try to recognize the source of the stress, deal with it and move on. Physical activity helps me a lot sometimes as well. When very stressed I always feel better after mowing the lawn or vacuuming the house or something. A few ice cold beers relieves stress temporarily but does not cure it. It's more like a vacation, you still have to deal with what is stressing you sooner or later.

I practice Historical European Swordsmanship about 5-10 hours a week, so the physical and mental workout from that helps. Also, playing music and participating in spiritual devotions help a lot as well. If all that fails, a pitcher of Strongbow never hurts! :)

Release your feelings. Stress comes from a subconscious wanting/expectation of perceived bad things. The easy, and only true way to relieve the stress is to let go of it. Focus on the stressful thing, feel the feeling as best as you can, and ask yourself, "Could I let go of wanting this to happen?" You may be surprised at what you find out.
