If you receive an RE4 Military Discharge will it stop you from getting into Law Enforcement or Border Patrol which is a department of Home Land Security?

An RE4 means "Not recommended for reenlistment" - you won't get into ANY branch of the military unless you appeal it and win (good luck there). There are many RE codes that pussyfoot around but only one that says that flat out. Law Enforcement or Border Patrol are not the US Military, but they often follow the military standards. Most people believe that you will not get in with an RE4. Your best bet is to try, and if you meet with resistance, go back and try to appeal the original RE4 classification.

Chance of getting into any Federal Agency is almost nil with that on your DD214. Why would they want to hire someone who was recommended no to be hired. Too many out there with a regular discharge to take any chances on an RE4. Think about it. I could give you hope and say, take a chance and apply for it. Be a waste of time. Unless it disappears from your record, I would find another occupation to pursue.
