    I dunno.

Why did the Roman Empire think that?

    Or Spain?

    Or England?

    Or France?

    Or Germany?

Or the Aztecs, Incas or Mayans?

Or the Bakongo, Chewa, or Zulu tribes?

    Or China?

    Or Japan?

    Or Egypt?

    Or the Greeks?

    Or the Phonecians?

I imagine it all amounts to the same thing, when you think about it. Which means it's hardly limited to America at all...especially when you realize America has only been around as a nation for a little over 230 years.

Your information is incorrect. I'm an American, and I don't feel that I have that right. In fact, I don't even believe in God.

When our conscience tells us we can't stand to see people killed because they can't express their political views. We see what happens is a result of people who have been oppressed. History tells us people will revolt when that happens. Maybe we are seeing a revolution in the making.

    Many Americans don't.

But sadly, a great many do. They were raised on illusory ideas of the US saving the world in WWII, Manifest Destiny, and God Bless America.

Add to that the country's size and isolation from the world and you've got a large number of people who create and believe an mythology that gives them the right to do pretty much whatever they want.

Either way America will get flack from someone. If we stand by and don't do anything, we're asked why we're not helping out. If we do go in to help, often times we're looked at in a negative light. You can't please everyone.

My only thought at this point is, do we attempt to overthrow the Iranian government once again? And if so, how long before that new leader uses our own money and weapons against us?

    America doesn't feel that it's God-given. And it's a responsibility, not a right.
    .
If you hear your neighbor beating his wife you probably don't say to yourself 'this is an internal affair'. You call the police. This is because you know that misuse of force against weaker people is wrong.
    .
Obviously we cannot defeat every tyrant (we could if we actually WERE an empire by forcing each nation we took to help us take others - but then we'd be the tyrant), but now and again an opportunity arises and we can aid real people who are really suffering.
    .
Non-interference may work as a general policy - especially for countries that don't have a military or much economic clout - but it should never be considered a virtue. Not when it amounts to turning your back on a grand scale.

We have a democracy with the Bill of Rights that provides some security against the government for all residents. We see that many other countries do not have these protections. Our God-given sense of right and wrong tells us it is wrong to mistreat people the way repressive dicatatorships do, so we feel quite justified in intervening when negotiations fail. We believe the democratic form of government is so much better for the people that we are justified in interfering with the internal affairs of another nation.

You have to look at the U.S. for what it is. The U.S. has a hegemony over the world and is the word's only superpower. Consequently, it has an enormous amount of clout and there is nothing one nation or many nations can do about it. The U.S. can impose economic sanctions, declare military action, and start a PR war against any government, movement, organization and etc. And for what purpose? To preserve and to enhance its own survival whether that be in natural resources, corporate interest, ideologies, suppressing radical movements and etc.

It's because they're an empire and they have the means to do so. But like all empires that implode under their own weight, the U.S. will fall and another power will fill the void.

    you ?
America feels compassion and justice for their 'fellowman' to help others....the peoples of other nations that suffer under their suppressive and oppressive LEADERS.....
suppose the US and other nations had just ignored Hitler ?
America used to be 'one nation UNDER God'...meaning we had God in it....now we are allowing HIM to be pushed out, unacknowledged.....
' God given right' ..its more RIGHT to care for others...
'am i my brothers keeper?' Cain asked....YES, we are.......just most are as selfcentered, arrogant and egotistical, greedy and jealous, as Cain was....

I agree with Factotum. But you have to agree that we live in times when for the first time ever, almost every country in the world agree that the way the US is interfering is "just too much". Even their allies have express this concern. Is not that they need to interfer in order to protect the communities in the world that are been abused and oppressed by their governments... actually I am happy that the US is protecting them!! What I am against is the way many times they analize the situation of those countries; sometimes they analize from the sole point of view of the American Culture and do not get the adquate analisis and genuine effort to understand what's going on out there before sending soldiers and taking down their governments.

good point, i've asked something similar to this before.

not a solution, but part of the problem may be people who sign up to be in the U.S. military/armed forces. without those who risk their lives, we know damn well our country's leaders or congress arent gonna go over to iran and risk his life, so why should anyone else? America, for some years now, has seemingly been instigating a lot of trouble around the world... not saying that we are the only one, but 2 wrongs dont make a right.

The rest of the world has to accept that America has the God given right to interfere wherever they want and all those who are not willing to accept this God given fact will be bombed and wiped out.
This was the right policy of the USA and this will always be the policy of the USA.
America makes the rules and the rest of the world has to accept.
There is no bigger country in the world as America and Britain.
    Both countries rule the world.

    We have no choice.

Look at it when we try to staty out of it...

When North Korea started getting stupid again the world was aghast that we were telling S.Korea, Japan and China to deal with it.

Now Sarkozy views Obama as being weak and naieve because the anouncement at G20 instead of the Security Council. Like the Security Council is worth the time of day.

When Bush Sr. kept Israel at bay while skuds were flying in 1991 it was for a reason. Israel is not a country of wimps and weanies, they've had a knife to their throat for over 50 years.

Israel would not have hesitated to nuke Iraq and the biggest danger to world peace right now, is they won't hesitate to blast Iran off the face of the earth.

Israel will not stand for a country that has vowed to destroy them having missles with a 1,200 mile radius and a nuclear capabillity.

    God help us all.

It is not American peoples that is to blame for this aggression. The peoples have been lied to and sedated into a numb state. Americans on the most part or so disconnected with the rest of the world. Just be ware when a nation gets into a position like the US is in economically. It's easier to steer a nation that is broken towards a common goal. I just hope the proper goal is the target.

America can do whatever they like and for America there are existing not any limits.
Quite different to all other nations America does defintively not need to respect any moral or legal restrictions.
Americans are educated and are used to these principles.
American people feel superior to all other nations and they are right if they use to regard other nations and nationalities as extremely useless and inferior. Those who have the power and the means are allowed by God to do whatever they like to do.
This is the base of all American politics and attitude.
