I usually buy ones that have a zipper and button combo.

zipper then button, i like to wear the real camouflage pants sometimes and they are button all the way up which is o.k unless you go out drinking and have to button up your pants while you are intoxicated and miss a button or break a button

Mostly button/zipper for jeans and pants but I have a small waist so if I find a decent looking pair of pants that have an elastic waist I buy them. I try to stay away from sweatpants but I kinda like the nike and adidas type sport pants that have the elastic. I hate my pants falling down all the time and having the waist scrunched up in a belt is really uncomfortable after a while.
