Taking average maintenance & driving style into account, how long and/or how many miles/kilometers would a typical BMW M3 last before breakdown?

Do you think I could drive a BMW M3 in CT during the winter and not mess up the car?

Yes, please! Fire away! I used to fix BMWs for a living. I've changed *plenty* of window regulators and door opening seals (the stuff around the windows). The diff noise is a *feature*, not a *bug*...;-D..
Please tell me neither of you were silly enough to get SMG...:-P...

Well I havn't bought one yet, but I was thinking of buying one. I wanted to know all the kinks before I bought one, and yes, I wanted to get SMG. What's the problem with it?

You should contact Bimmer Magazine (www.bimmer-mag.com) and get their June 2005 issue. It has a Buyer's Guide for M3s
in it.
As for SMG, I found it shifted too slowly, no matter what mode it was in.
In Auto mode, the shifts are not even close to the smoothness of a conventional automatic. In Sport mode, it hesitates after you hit a shift button even at the 'fastest' setting. I never could get used to it.
