Question

Help answer this question below.

I have Vista RC2 - Build 5744 installed as a clean install. There is no other OS on the computer as the Vista install deleted XP? Can I purchase a Vista upgrade or will I have to buy another full version of Vista at the full price?

YES, you can perform a "clean install" from upgradeable media and save $100 in the process. Go to this site http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_upgrade_clean.asp
for full instructions how to do it. It is legal. I tried it and it does work great!. From what I've read , MS does not allow upgrading from any of the RC versions. You have to reformat and start over again.

All previous versions of Windows permitted an upgrade disc to work on a clean install provided that a disc of an earlier version was inserted as proof of the qualification for an upgrade. I can't imagine that MS has changed this so, provided you have an XP instalation disc, I am confident you only need to buy the upgrade version.
